International Day of Peace Commemoration
SAVE THE DATE: September 21, 2016
Please save the date and join CCPM as we commemorate International Day of Peace "Peace Day" on Wednesday, September 21 with a candlelight vigil starting at 7 p.m. at the Chester County Court House steps, Market and High Streets, in downtown West Chester.

Peace Day was established in 1981 by the United Nations (UN) as an annual observance of global non-violence and ceasefire. In 2002, the General Assembly of the UN declared September 21 as the permanent date for International Day of Peace:

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon... has called for a 24-hour cessation of hostilities. 'On this International Day, let us promise to make peace not just a priority, but a passion... pledge to do more, wherever we are in whatever way we can, to make every day a day of peace' (www.un.org).

This year's participants include State Senator Andy Dinniman; Chester County Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence; Domestic Violence Center of Chester County; Veterans for Peace Philadelphia Chapter; West Chester University Peace & Conflict Studies Faculty; musical performances by Concordia Choral Arts; West Chester Friend's School; with community readings/performers; and citation of West Chester Borough's Proclamation for Peace.

Please join CCPM in unity with our neighboring communities on September 21 to celebrate Peace Day -- all are welcome!

About Us
The Chester County Peace Movement formed as a coalition of individuals in Pennsylvania in 2002 in response to the threat of war against Iraq to establish a combined voice to express:

  1. Support of all efforts for world peace and, more specifically,
  2. Opposition to a war with Iraq.

In less than four months, CCPM grew to a mailing list of more than 700 people - representing at least 1,000 Chester Countians. CCPM members represent all political parties, income levels, and occupations, as well as people of all (or no) religious faiths. We charge no membership fee, always providing financial assistance for activities charging fees. CCPM has trained Draft/Military Counselors for counseling individuals and speaking to groups and a Speakers' Bureau available for your meetings. You are welcome to attend all activities, including the following (see Calendar for other activities):
